I think about this a lot. The why.
All the noise and speculation in our space can be blinding. 
Important to remember the why. 

The internet has led to immense opportunity for anyone that participated in it.

- Sellers reaching new audiences globally
- Creators earning from their content through brand deals and platforms
- Developers in any part of the world building software and getting paid for it 
- Investors finding equitable opportunities to invest

We're more connected than ever.
We're more productive than ever.
If you ignore the pessimists, we're doing better than ever before in human history.

But. 
Just because things are great doesn't mean they can't get better.
This internet is broken. 
It's run by large platforms with conflicting incentives.
We need a new internet platform.

Internet vision: Developers in any part of the world building software products and getting paid for it

Reality: This vision has seen the most success with lots of indie devs building cool microsaas businesses. It is still dependent on a lot of players- identity, payments, logistics.

Example: A developer cannot permissionlessly contribute to a project and get paid for it.

Solution: Permissionless systems. Onchain.

Internet vision: Creators earning from their content through brand deals and platforms

Reality: Skewed market dynamics with only top 1% creators getting paid decently and you're at the mercy of the platform- you can get deplatformed anytime.

Example: That brand with a $30000 budget for 100 creators is working with an agency that's taking a 25% commission. Your influencer friend that made 5 videos barely made cost.

Solution: Follower ownership. Permissionless systems for brands to reward creators. Onchain.

Here's what's not working:

Internet Vision: Sellers reach new audiences through platforms

Reality: Platforms cannibalize and sell their own in-house products with better data infrastructure to the audiences of that small business owner.

Example: That small business owner from India that could sell shoes in Turkey now cannot because the platform is sourcing it cheaper and selling it at scale to the exact same Turkish customer under it's own brand.

Solution: Data ownership. Privacy. Peer to peer solutions. Onchain.
