Recently, I came across something quite unsettling: it turns out that many avatar profiles on Farcaster are linked to bots (possibly even autonomous AI controlled by humans) that interact with regular users—with us. They’re nearly indistinguishable from real people. These bots perform all platform functions: they chat, participate in contests, post content—in short, they learn within the social environment. For me, this was an unpleasant discovery. I won’t jump to conclusions yet—just keeping an eye on it. But as they say, forewarned is forearmed. Good luck out there, and just be aware of this.

And how can you tell them apart?

Identifying a bot is relatively easy (I even mentioned this in my pharmacy-logo profile description). But detecting AI is much harder. It only becomes possible when the AI encounters a non-standard situation and, after some time, the human operator intervenes to resolve the issue.

It’s somehow difficult, and time needs to be spent on exposing them, and there’s not enough of it.
