a note on where I’ve been and where I’m at 🤍 This last year I’ve been working on a ton of new music- for my artist projects (both singer-songwriter indie stuff as well as my dance/edm projects), writing with and for other incredibly talented artists, producing a ton and starting to DJ. Every single day I can’t believe how lucky I am to get to create art for a living. A part of me has always been deeply uncomfortable with self promotion- and I’ve really noticed that discomfort growing with every day that we wake up to the most unimaginable stories of people who are just trying to survive, feed their children, find a safe place to sleep. There’s a deep guilt that I carry moving through my life and career when there are so many people who need our help, and so many people determined to keep taking from those who need most. Maybe you’ve felt the same.

In speaking to another artist and collaborator recently about this feeling, I was also reminded how much the world needs art. I’m definitely aware of how much I need it. It’s also my job and I know can’t just stop making and sharing it. In january of this year, I was visiting my family back home in Montreal while LA was on fire. I was sitting in my childhood home with my dad trying to stomach the inauguration of a facist predator. We watched as he proudly celebrated the victory of his campaign ran on hate, pardoned and rewarded white supremacists, and then sat in church for the post inauguration prayer service. ‘God would hate him’, I said out loud to my dad or to myself or maybe to the universe.

Witnessing the racism, facism, bigotry and hatred of these ‘leaders’ be dressed up in the lie of ‘traditional christian values’ is something I haven’t stopped thinking about. I wrote about it. It’s called ‘I think god would hate you.’ I think I’ll share it soon. All proceeds from any videos I do share will go to The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. If there’s any point to this post, maybe it’s that if you too are feeling the lump in your throat and your chest, feeling overwhelmed, having a hard time managing the weight of everything and still taking care of the things in your own life that need your attention, you are not alone, and that is your strength. You haven’t become numb. There is so much power in that. I love you and I am hopeful that there are enough of us who can and will stand up for what is just.
