The way I view "collectibles"

None of my casts are worth buying.   I wouldn't expect anyone to. 

However, I do receive quite a few tips.  No one ever gets anything back for those.  Tips are not meant to be reciprocal. 

But if you did want something for giving me a tip, now you can receive one of my casts for the bid amount. 

This is why I bought casts.   To tip my favorite homies and own a lil piece of their writing. 

I think this is objectively better than coining.

Is it necessary?  No.

Will it be popular in 6 months? Not likely. 

But will people stop acting irrationally?  Definitely not.
