In Nepal, during the second day of the five-day Tihar festival (known as Kukur Tihar), dogs are honoured with garlands, tika, and special treats. In Hindu/Nepali belief, dogs are considered the companions or messengers of the death god Yama and guard the after-life. By respecting dogs on this day, people express gratitude for their loyalty and seek auspiciousness and protection in the journey after death. Here’s my parent’s dog named Max being showered with love!
