Not seeing much on the internet about why Circle might be looking to sell instead of going public.

Could be a reason as simple as the share price determined by bankers are just too low or could be around being a public company (increased reporting requirements) that make it hard for them to operate.

Too reliant on Coinbase for USDC distribution (which is why Coinbase gets to extract lots of value from USDC). Investors aren't super convinced it seems.
