An ENGAGED COMMUNITY is a massive asset. But community is draining for companies and artists. And I’ve part of and managed communities with over 50k members many times in just the last 3 years. Here are 6 mistakes I've experienced ⬇️

1/ LACK OF COMMS No comms in a (crypto) world that’s always ON is a sure path to oblivion Eg: ➡️ Doodles thought it’s ok not to post anything on X for a month ➡️ Farcaster (still) does great at comms - @dwr.eth and @v always asking feedback and discussing about product ⬇️

2/ LACK OF CLARITY Even constant comms aren’t always enough, a drop in the ocean of daily crypto subjects. You need clear, simple msgs, ELI5. EG: ➡️ DEGEN fumbled it - a drastic change in tip allo formula and no mention on @jacek ’s timeline. that's why you see so many HAM posts! ⬇️

3/ LACK OF TRANSPARENCY Many community members are used to the building in the open approach. And like any progress you witnessed, you want to make it the default choice. Eg: ➡️ Moonbirds changing to CC0 "overnight" ➡️ DEGEN checks this one too ⬇️

4/ LACK OF LEADER(S) Decentralization sounds great, but ppl are (still) used to follow the leader(s). You usually see this issue with DAOs and large communities. Leaders are needed and they should be accessible for members. Eg: ➡️ @gmoney.eth does a great job with this ➡️ @farcaster also 👍 ⬇️

5/ LACK OF PRIORITY Your first supporters are always the most important. The SPIRIT of the community is in the early users. Best way to 💣 a community: don't include early active members in ur journey. Doesn't have to be exclusive, just don't keep them out Eg: great job BAYC, not so great /9dcc with /human ⬇️

6/ LACK OF RESOURCES Working with the community is draining, it takes strategy, clarity and patience. When you don't have dedicated strategy/ppl, this issue usually breaks down into 1-2 of the previous 5. Conclusion ⬇️

As you've seen, these are not the usual issues for startups (coz all crypto prjs are startups!). Never talked about funding, tokenomics, choosing the best chain, airdrops, etc. These are community-specific issues, most of the time ignored due to growth/number-go-up status. TAKE CARE OF YOUR COMMUNITY! 💜 PS⬇️
