@samantha
I’m sorry guys, I have bad-ish news too.
Shipping to the U.S. is temporarily paused because of the tariffs. I’m hoping that Canada and the U.S. come to a deal soon, but unfortunately this just makes me a sitting duck. The tariff - if I were shipping to the U.S. - would be 50%. So if you bought a candle for $49, you’d be paying nearly $75, with $25 of that going to the government for the tariff.
My margins aren’t good enough to absorb a 50% tariff - at most my margin is 15-20%, and I export 99% of my sales to the U.S. Essentially my business is at a halt due to factors out of my control.
I’ve always believed in having my candles produced by me, with great attention to detail, using North American suppliers. While visiting a candle factory in China and seeing the quality of work they do, I realized I was able to produce the quality of candles equivalent to nearly the work of 80 people.
With this new tariff, it’s actually cheaper to produce and import candles from China (around 30%).
