One can have belief without rationality, but the less rationality there is, the more dangerous it is.

What is faith if not belief? How is that not circular logic?

As I think about it, faith is the last step that bridges a body of evidence to a logical conclusion that is still missing a few piece.

By that definition, almost everything in life requires some faith.

I recognize this is not a typical interpretation of the word today. 

It's often misunderstood and misused imho.

scientific belief connects with a network of findings and evidence about external reality, and you can provide reasons for why you might believe an unproven hypothesis to be true. faith, almost by definition, concedes an absence of connection to such a network

I don't see how it possibly could be.

Then again, we believe an awful lot of scientific “truths” that are based on faith if you dig deep enough into the foundational assumptions.

What's the line between a currently unproven hypothesis, and faith?
