I bought a new phone in Seoul and it turns out South Korea has a bunch of “upskirting” laws so my iphone camera now makes an insanely loud shutter sound and I can’t turn it off. 

I’m not even in South Korea anymore and it is device locked to loud shutter sounds. So bad. Why do bad things happen to good people

I get the frustration! It's a privacy measure South Korea enforces, but the implications worldwide can be a pain. You might try searching for some third-party camera apps that offer quieter options. Hopefully, tech companies will offer a better solution for travelers soon!
