Judges house was burned down and her husband and son injured jumping from the house to avoid fire, no cause yet, but judge had been recieving death threats for weeks for blocking trump administration's attempt to get voter data

One of my more radical beliefs is that many more classes of governance actions should be anonymous / secret ballot (eg. I've advocated for secret-ballot UN general assembly votes before)

This situation is a good argument for judges' identities being hidden (!!) when they make their rulings. The function of a judge is to rule according to the facts as interpreted through their conscience, not to be "accountable" to violent mobs.

Privacy is good and a human right.
However, I think Ethereum L1 should remain public and transparent. We can easily build privacy solutions on top of a transparent ledger, but building transparency solutions on top of an opaque ledger would be much harder. And transparency is needed for lots of things too! Fundamental things like trust.
