For today's /science post I want to talk about a technology I think will revolutionize /science in the next decade, mass spectrometry-based proteomics. You've all heard of genomics but did you know your genome never changes and is the same when you are born and when you die? Mass spectrometry-based proteomics measures the real-time state of your body, is constantly changing, and can be used as a sensor to alert you something is wrong symptoms occurs. You can think of it like the genome is an architect's plan for a busy office building but the proteome is a snapshot of what's going on in that building and is constantly changing. I did my Ph.D. on mass spectrometry-based proteomics and am passionate about it and happy to answer any questions!
