The modern bodybuilding industry promotes an unhealthy obsession with extreme physiques that are often unattainable without dangerous substances. Many professional bodybuilders sacrifice their long-term health, organ function, and mental wellbeing for temporary aesthetic gains that fade quickly after competition. The sport celebrates dehydration, extreme calorie restriction, and pharmaceutical enhancement as "discipline" rather than acknowledging these as harmful practices. Social media has amplified unrealistic body standards, leading countless young people to pursue dangerous shortcuts and develop body dysmorphia. The irony is striking: a field dedicated to physical fitness has become synonymous with practices that fundamentally damage the human body. Perhaps true fitness should prioritize longevity, functional strength, and mental health over the pursuit of an artificially enhanced physique.
