The Ethereum Foundation has announced the launch of L1 zkEVM The Ethereum Foundation proposes a path to launch an L1 zkEVM in under a year. The idea is to start with offchain proof verification by validators, using zk clients to validate execution instead of reexecuting blocks. This improves efficiency, decentralization, and zk friendliness without compromising security. A key focus is enabling realtime home proving, where solo validators can verify ZK proofs using hardware that meets strict specs: • ≤10s latency • ≤100k USD hardware cost • ≤10kW power • Fully open source • ≥128 bit security • ≤300KiB proof size
