i've officially converted to being a voice memo guy. much easier to catch up when schedules don't quite line up for a call (even EST <> PST can be tough). captures fun moments like your dog jumping on you mid-sentence, or significant others in the background. the downside is it's not very scalable and breaks down past a small number of people. you can easily skim through texts but it's annoying to reply to 10 different spotify links. one way around this is to transcribe the note (or voice-to-text), and AI can even condense into bullets. but the point is hearing their voice, their energy, their presence. one would think the next evolution would be short form video notes, but this feels even less flexible. hard to do while your hands are full. or if you're driving. and a bit lame to record in public.
