Have you ever regretted being generous? Really asking - I want to hear stories of you have them… Last week a friend told me he tries to always say “yes” when anybody asks for money or food. We were walking back to our cars and somebody asked for a sandwich, and he immediately said yes, turned around, and got him a $15 turkey club at the place next door, along with a bottle of water. About a block later somebody asked us for money and he gave the guy the only cash he had - a $20. Our cars were parked outside a coffee shop. When we got back, a woman asked us for a water and something with sugar cause she was feeling faint. She asked if we would sit with her so the place would let her use a table (she’d clearly been sleeping on the streets). We spent 30 minutes with Lucy who shared all kinds of stories with us and was beyond grateful, surprised, and confused why we would actually sit with her. My friend reminded me how simple it can be to show up for people when they need you. He doesn’t have lots of money. He works at a coffee shop. But he gives generously and without expectation. Pretty dope. I want to be more like that.

I have never regretted it and I continue to do so. When I have something to share, I simply share it. I think I had a good example in my case, my father. He had a very poor childhood and since he did well in life, he always goes back to the place where he was born to donate! When he is on the street, he also helps people. I learned from him to help without seeing who I am helping, because I know that in some way I can change that person's day. I truly have never regretted helping someone and I think that if it is done genuinely, without expecting anything in return, it is the best part!
