On Polymarket, bettors were giving a 65 percent chance of "crypto" being mentioned during the interview, with over $600,000 staked on the topic. The prediction market also added another market to ask bettors about the possibility of "bitcoin" being mentioned, which peaked at 69% with approximately $330,000 on the table. Each share pays out $1 in USDC, a stablecoin, or cryptocurrency that trades at par with the U.S. dollar, if the prediction comes true, and zero if not. Polymarket did not list out markets for mentions of other digital assets such as ether, solana, or dogecoin. Bettors had punted over $250,000 on Trump mentioning "Tesla," which peaked at 79%, however Trump dodged the specific word by referring to the electric vehicle brand from Musk as "your cars." Other words that bettors had punted on, which Trump ended up saying on X space, included "MAGA," "illegal immigrant," and "tampon."

Peter Schiff, President of Euro Pacific Capital, who has repeatedly criticized Bitcoin, made a new statement regarding the first cryptocurrency. He warned that Bitcoin is on the verge of a deep recession. The expert began with stock market analytics. He reported that on July 24, 2024, the S&P 500 and NASDAQ indices closed at multi-week lows amid falling Tesla and Alphabet shares. Schiff noted the growth of the Japanese yen and Swiss franc. As a rule, these are currencies with a stable exchange rate, into which assets are transferred during economic and political instability. Recall that in June 2024, US senators called on Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to lower the interest rate. Lawmakers believe that tightening the regulator's policy threatens a recession. Peter Schiff then moved on to gold and silver prices, which also fell by about 2% over the past 24 hours. According to the expert, the precious metals market is also preparing for a "hard landing".

The “Trump factor” is a positive catalyst for the world’s largest cryptocurrency, bitcoin, Bernstein analysts asserted in a Tuesday note to clients, as Donald Trump’s selection of crypto-friendly Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate further stoked bitcoin investors’ optimism about the prospect of the self-proclaimed “crypto president” Trump, despite Trump’s prior teardowns of bitcoin.

Leah Wald, former principal and co-founder of Valkyrie Investments, has been named President and CEO of Crypto company Cypherpunk Holdings (HODL.CA). Wald, who has been a member of Cypherpunk's board of directors for nearly three years, will succeed current CEO Antanas Guogu, according to a company statement. Guoga will remain chairman of the firm, the statement said. “Under Leah’s leadership, we are confident that Cypherpunk will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in blockchain investing and expand our impact in the market,” Guoga said in a statement. As the former CEO of Valkyrie, Wald oversaw the creation of several funds, including the first Bitcoin futures exchange-traded fund listed on Nasdaq. Under her leadership, Valkyrie has accumulated $1.3 billion in assets under management (AUM) in more than a year since launching its first fund, the statement said.

On the morning of June 5, quotes of the first cryptocurrency fell below $54,000 amid reports of movements of Mt coins. Gox. At the time of writing, the price, after a slight rebound, is trying to maintain this level. The trustee of the exchange, which went bankrupt in 2014, Nobuyaki Kobayashi announced plans to implement a phased refund of 137,000 BTC to platform customers in July. At the beginning of the trading session, Japanese time, Arkham experts noted the transfer of 47,228.7 BTC (~$2.71 billion) from the exchange’s cold storage to a new address. During the day, Arkham noted the transfer of 1,545 BTC (~$84.9 million) from one of Arkham’s cold wallets to the Bitbank exchange. Despite the fact that the entire volume of bitcoins moved by Mt. Gox represents approximately 0.24% of the total supply of the coin, the market reacted nervously.

South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchanges are preparing for a large-scale revaluation of assets represented on local platforms. According to The Block, South Korean exchanges are planning to review the status of more than 1,300 cryptocurrencies under updated, stricter self-regulatory standards coming into effect on July 19. South Korea holds its position as one of the largest and most active cryptocurrency markets in the world. According to Kaiko data, in the first quarter of 2024, the South Korean won (KRW) overtook the US dollar (USD) in trading volume on cryptocurrency exchanges. Trading volume on the country's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, amounted to more than $30 billion in June, according to The Block. Trading in speculative cryptocurrencies sets South Korea apart from other countries. Altcoins such as DOGE and SHIB are much more popular in the country than the flagship cryptocurrencies Bitcoin or Ethereum.

On Friday, the Securities and Exchange Commission brought its latest lawsuit against the crypto industry, this time targeting Consensys, a blockchain firm focused on the Ethereum network best known for its MetaMask wallet product. Echoing similar complaints brought against other crypto firms, such as Coinbase and Kraken, the SEC is alleging Consensys violated federal securities laws by failing to register as a broker and dealer while offering services for securities, ultimately collecting over $250 million in fees. While the accusations echo past actions, the lawsuit is notable for the controversy surrounding the escalating legal battle. In April, after receiving a Wells notice—a formal letter that the SEC plans to sue—Consensys preemptively filed its own lawsuit against the agency, arguing for clarity over the issue of whether Ethereum is a security.

The US state of North Carolina, on Wednesday, won majority of votes from the Senate on the bill that seeks to ban central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). The legislation has moved to the Governor’s desk for approval. If signed into law, the state can no longer involve in the Federal Reserve branch’s testing of any future CBDC. Further, it would also prohibit North Carolina agencies and courts from accepting any payments using CBDC, the bill noted. According to Carolina Journal, the Bill 690 received a 109-4 vote from the Senate on Wednesday. This is an increase form 39-5 vote, recorded on Tuesday. Sen. Brad Overcash, noted that the legislation aims to dissuade the federal government from moving forward with CBDC plan. The plan would “threaten” one of the main global currencies – dollar, he added. The bill sends a strong message to the government that North Carolina is uninterested in a CBDC, Overcash said.

Listen to any crypto podcast or convention panel, and you will hear crypto natives speak of a killer app yet to come that will onboard the rest of the world. But what if it is already here? I argue that Telegram and a handful of independent developers have made more progress in onboarding the masses to crypto than the $100 billion in venture capital that has flooded the space since 2014. Crypto adoption has been hindered by (i) poor UX, (ii) limited real-world utility, and (iii) terrible distribution. Through its support for and integration of The Open Network (TON), Telegram is addressing all of these issues and more.
