OK, bound to step on some toes here, but I was never the one to keep my mouth shut (and it backfired tremendously every single time I said sth like this, so why not repeat it)?
Maybe I've seen too many scams and grifts here, and now I am ruined. And I do realize some people had a bit of bad luck and could use a hand.
That said, crowdfunds should be reserved for:
1) projects that would normally not qualify for trad funding,
2) legit charities (and charities are notorious for not being legit so do with that what you will), and
3) people that went through a flood/fire/hurricane/medical emergency that took away everything they had (which would still qualify as 2, but they seem to be popular on SM).
Crowdfunding on Farcaster is quickly turning into "Let's help Kylie Jenner become a billionaire" (which was a REAL thing on GoFundMe).
