Why Firefox: Mozilla is one of the only 'tech giant' type entities that has stuck to user-first, privacy-preserving, tech-advancing values. It refuses to sell out, is not-for-profit, takes community contributions & builds in public meanwhile, Chrome: blocks uBlock Origin. Secretly collects data when you use Incognito.

i haven't kept up to date with firefox/mozilla nor used it in years after someone pointed out (the otherwise obvious fact) that too many of the privacy-preserving features were opt-in which undermines what they advertise as. wonder if things are better now. other accusations were also on being funded by surv. tech

both of these things sound like rumors designed to undermine their reputation imo. Tracking protection, DNS over HTTPS, and fingerprint blocking are all on by default. Would be curious if you know of anything concrete or data-backed that would harm my view of them

re: privacy settings- i wouldn't recall how things were couple of years back, but i know i had to go through the privacytools config guide for advanced privacy (one that i recall was setting DNT to true) which wouldn't be quite handy for most users. perhaps more settings are default now 1/2

re: funding, the for-profit (mozilla corp) has been funded by google acc. to wikipedia although i stopped using firefox, i still consider them one of the (much) better actors, of course. wouldn't say my current setup is necessarily better, but i know it had an impression on me back then enough to switch to brave 2/2
