Neon EVM is an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility layer built on the Solana blockchain, promising faster and cheaper transaction processing for Ethereum-based dApps. The Solana network’s high throughput and low transaction fees could make Neon EVM an appealing option for developers looking for Ethereum compatibility without the limitations of Ethereum’s scalability. Compared to Ethereum Layer 2 solutions, which also aim to provide scalability improvements, Neon EVM offers a more drastic performance boost thanks to Solana's architecture. However, the Solana ecosystem's relative immaturity and its centralized validator set present potential risks. For certain dApps that require high throughput and low costs, Neon EVM could outperform Ethereum L2s. However, it remains to be seen if the Solana ecosystem can provide the necessary stability and security to sustain long-term dApp adoption.
