Energy use per person versus GDP per capita makes it relatively clear that increasing the kilowatt hour per person increases GDP. 

It just really makes you think about the fact that everything really is downstream from energy. Energy, having energy means that you can do more work, you can make more food you can support more of your citizens and your fellow humans. It’s just the reality. 

Just really makes me think about how we need to produce more energy, when you think about how there’s a revival going on with nuclear reactors coming back online in the United States because AI data centers are driving electricity demand

this is a nice rallying point in terms of marketing, and gathering support but what we really is to increase kWh per person per dollar per cost

You need to continuously systematically increase kWh / dollar per person - and the question is how

It's not a discrete step, it's a continuous increase in the kWh / per dollar cost. it's about energy increase, while decreasing the production cost, and the BOM cost, and production cost over the lifetime investment made to make that energy. it's not just a 'lets increase the kardashev scale' - one way to do this is increase the number of energy sources. or increase energy density of the things we can get energy from. and then not only, it'll take years and years to transition from energy density sources (coal -> oil, oil -> electricity based transportation etc) so this requires whole other energy transition plan as well

it's increase the amount of energy that we can use. the kardahsev only talks about the earth and harnessing the energy of earth. earth is ultimately a closed system, the only energy we get is from the sun, but that will run out, but not for few billion years. that being said we do need to get off the earth to harness more energy, because there is a usability issue, we can't really access easily the earth's core. and other things without messing the earth up (probably). 

also accessibility is an issue because - earth's surface is really just a fraction of the mass of earth itself, and mass is energy. so - yeah, we need to get off planet for more energy, probably

I've always wondered: 
can you climb the kardashev scale with efficiency gains and by smarter use, or do you really just need to have so much energy you DGAF how it gets used?
