“India and Its Problem with a Majoritarian Mindset”

I stayed in Pune for 4 months and visited the society office while vacating my rented flat. The staff knew me from earlier visits. I was speaking in Marathi when they casually asked my surname probably to check if I was local. Then they suggested I teach Marathi to my Hindi speaking friends since we live in Maharashtra.

What followed was disturbing.

They showed CCTV footage att 2:30 AM, they beat a resident his crime not knowing Marathi.
They laughed proudlyno shame, just majoritarian violence on display.

I asked who the man was. They shruggedsaid he lives in the society. No police, no complaint, no consequences.

I left that office disgusted. If people are getting beaten over language and the culprits are glorified instead of punished, we’re on a terrifying path. This isn’t prideit’s toxic, tribal bullying. And people like that don’t deserve jobs. They deserve jail.
