Vercel is really good at vendor lock in. I don’t fault them for this. It’s what they need to do. But for all the other people like me who prefer not to use Vercel, this is NOT the hardest part of building AI chat apps. Don’t be fooled. This is the easiest part.

Applying RAG, selecting the right model, reducing latency, managing cost. The UI, even with streaming, is not as difficult as these things, imo

Yeah that’s a good list. Setting up a basic agent to talk to OpenAI is pretty simple. It’s all the stuff involved in making the agent useful, reliable and cost effective that gets you.
