That if the IQ-analogue of an AGI grows exponentially, it won’t be “oh, this machine is good enough to do most of my work”, it’ll be “this machine is good enough to make all political decisions, scientific discoveries, and artistic creations on behalf of mankind, and we’re better off standing aside”.

An exponential IQ growth starts with 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64… until it reaches above-average but still common human intelligence at 128… and then all of a sudden it’s far smarter at 256 than any human who’s ever lived. After that all bets are off as we enter the asymptote.

At that point the next evolution of man will be technological, not biological, and it might just be specist to resist that instead of anticipating ways to embrace it.

Biology 🧫🧬 is Turing complete, so perhaps your point here (which I agree with, in my lay-person I don’t actually know, level way) will play out on a bio/cellular substrate AS WELL AS a silicon one.

I just simulcast about the likely merger of bio & silicon. DNA is base 4, machines are base 2, but that’s functionally equivalent. Substrates are also immaterial as long as functionality can be achieved. So yes, probably an optimized mix of both, & perhaps more bio than I expect if we take evolution in our own hands

Sorry, I neologized a bit too liberally 😄 I initially wrote “simulposted” which means “posted at the same time as you”. But then I replaced “posted” with “cast” because we’re on Farcaster after all (and I needed to shorten my cast by a few bytes!).

👍👍 You prompt a design idea 💡: I’d totally “pay” for a slush fund of say 10-15 chars (per cast when needed) to allow for word “allowances” that blow a cast over by a mere few chars!!! (Tied to the storage costs/contracts)
