Who was a woman you looked up to when you were *specifically* in elementary school--and in real life? Doesn't have to be deep. Me first: pastor's wife played tambourine, sang backup vocals and had curly hair when curly hair was in. I wanted to play the tambourine, sing backup vocals and have curly hair too.

Mrs Walton - my intermediate* school music teacher (pre high-school) We were just getting old enough for life to start getting slightly autonomous, and potentially exciting. She smoked, had a gravely jazz voice, and controlled an orchestra with the sort of deft "in the know" cool but in charge manner that left a mark.

While we never knew this, you'd look at her, & just surmise a rich speculative fantasy world that we guessed she probably occupied. Out the back of "hold in the wall" jazz clubs, deep into the night - 4am hanging with the musos. None of this was prob true - but the aura, competence, energy had a profound effect on me.
