The Unwritten Rules of Farcaster: Curate > Tolerate
Marie Kondo taught us to hold up every object and ask, “Does this spark joy?”
Her Japanese art of decluttering changed the way millions of people look at objects, and the Farcaster team has given us all the tools we need to do the same for your timeline.
If your feed feels chaotic, boring, or just plain annoying, maybe it’s time to KonMari your content. Mute the noise. Unfollow drama. Curate joy and build a space you actually want to scroll. Your attention is valuable, and you deserve a great feed, but it’s going to take some intentional work.

Commit to tidying up your feed and take action on your main feed.
Does this content feel good? Informative? Inspiring? Or is it draining, noisy, or irrelevant?
The team has given us many tools to tidy up your timeline. The first and easiest way is to change your feed from “Home” ( aka letting the algorithm decide) to “Following,” letting you see a reverse chronological feed of everyone you follow.
The “show less” button on the Home feed is useless. I’ve tried to wrangle it this way, and it does nothing. I’ve done experiments from using it exclusively to unfollowing everyone (yes, I followed 0 people for two months to see what the home feed would deem worthy), and I’ve hated every moment.
If your following feed isn’t sparking joy, why are you following those people? You don’t owe anyone your attention. You can choose what you see.
If you aren’t quite ready to go nuclear and change your entire feed, you can take a much more nuanced approach. If it doesn’t spark joy, mute It.

Go step by step and MUTE: topics/channels, people, mini apps/frames.
Maybe you are behind on the latest trending TV show. Maybe you are on a diet and don’t want temptation in your feed. Your mutes are private and are an extremely powerful feature. I get tired of mini apps/frames quickly. If I’ve installed it and turned on notifications, I don’t need that digital clutter and mute them liberally.
The algorithm has recently been in love with some casters, and I don’t enjoy their content. I liberally mute channels, keywords, and even people whose content doesn’t spark joy.
It’s my feed. It’s my attention. I decide who gets it. Within the Mute menu, you can choose just how far to go and make adjustments as needed. You can also easily undo any of this if you’ve gone too restrictive. It also works with tokens!

You are responsible for curating your own joy.
If you don’t like how Farcaster looks today, you need to take action. You deserve feed that sparks joy. Curate your feed like you would a gallery, a garden, or your favorite cozy reading corner. Fill it with posts that make you laugh, think, and feel good. Mute with intention. Mute without guilt.
Farcaster is changing, and it will continue to evolve and change. You have to use the tools the team gave us to create the vibe you want to see. If your feed doesn’t feel different from other socials, if it doesn’t feel like a sanctuary, you need to do some tidying up. You have more control than you think. Use it. 21 replies
