I have observed the exact same phenomenon: Those who would actually benefit most from crypto are either disgusted by it, or don't even think about it as a solution at all. This needs to change.

I host a peer review every week with game audio people. I tried talking to them about crypto gaming, and how there are many opportunities here to find work and collaborate with devs and other creatives.

All my crypto, web3 talk gets ignored and dismissed as if I am talking to a wall. Although I am getting actual paid work here in Web3 while my peers are struggling to find any paid opportunities in Web2.  

Go figure!

Sometimes I wonder if people don't realize the extent of how crypto's reputation is absolutely 𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒅 outside crypto circles.

Large overlap with the "AI sucks" people. However, that one will fade as AI has obvious use-cases for individuals and groups which don't require network effects to be successful. AI will succeed and the "AI sucks" people will be seen as luddites, path-independently.

Crypto however - at least the originally-intended version as democratized peer-to-peer money - can only succeed with network effects going its way. Same goes for a network like Farcaster, where we can see from this thread that crypto's reputation is a large reason why folks aren't being invited here.

Trust and reputations are difficult to rebuild. I worry it may be too little too late.

The scenario I fear most is the one where crypto is relegated to boring settlement backend tech for tradfi, providing none of its promised self-sovereignty benefits to individuals.

Thank you for spreading the word 🫡 I think those types of external community touchpoints are the things that will make a difference in the long run, even if it feels like talking to a wall in the short term.

My worry is that all the benefits crypto has to offer remain so insular that it all kind of withers out and "gets gommaged", in Expedition 33 terms.
Not because those benefits wouldn't have solved real problems, but because the critical mass necessary to effectively advocate for these solutions can't be reached.

For most people learning new information is extremely difficult, and crypto specifically, tends to push people out of their comfort zones.

I think there’s a lack of reach in terms of educational content first and foremost.

Even for me, who’s been following web3 since 2017, some things are still way above my head, and there’s not a lot of educational content that makes it easy on people (maybe there is, I am not just not aware of it) 

A lot of people that I meet in the space are very technical which makes me feel (and any average person) kinda dumb.

I also think women should be brought on and supported more here which I see on Farcaster — super cool:)
