wow. meta is really fucking up what had the chance to be a great product.

the raybans are now holding my videos hostage unless i give their “AI” app access to all of my photos and videos (!) 

completely destroyed the functionality. disappointing.

i was able to make it work without granting full photo permissions 

instead, i needed to sync my phone with the case over the local network

i feel really torn about the glasses. they are really a great product. and the background noise filtering when taking calls is second to none.

but it’s clearly contorting itself to fit within metas app garden. some of the software choices are downright kooky, including having the main app be something called “meta ai” whose home screen is a slop filled AI field with the useful bits tucked away in settings
