I still don’t really get fc mini apps if I’m being completely honest. 

You still need to connect the wallet when opening. You still need to load the page. 

Frames were cool because they were embedded and required less clicks. It felt native. It knew who i was on the first tap.  

Mini apps feel like in app browser PWAs with cool distribution in a tab on fc. Embedded mini apps, albiet hard / insecure, would get me excited for sure. 

What am I missing?

having built 2 mini apps (one that also has a standalone web app), my thoughts...

the new mini app quickauth flow is interesting because you completely remove the sign up flow (which is usually a conversion funnel drop off)

the sdk swap action is also nice because users can do a in-app swap with the farcaster wallet. most standalone apps have you either 1) connect your wallet (very buggy) or 2) have you deposit into an embedded wallet (another conversion funnel drop off) or 3) send you off to a dex app

but honestly, the biggest thing that will get more devs to come over to mini apps is distribution, which the fc team is working on

to me it's another tool in the toolkit for consumer crypto founders, won't make or break your product atm
