Posted before but can't resist posting this classic again for ◼️◻️ #monochrome-monday #mono Ryuichi Yamashiro Forest, 1954 Using the pictographic nature of the kanji for forest 森 and grove/woods 林 for maximum visual (and poetic) effect.

Agreed, it's stunning work, and of course ideographic/pictographic languages certainly lend themselves to his kind of treatment
