The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto should be required reading in the Palantir age. It should give you hope. Not because it’s edgy and therefore cool. But because of what it means amid a great threat posed by centralized systems — there is hope through technology. The centralized forces push hard, but then suddenly emerges Bitcoin. This action-reaction will happen over and again. It’s a cat-and-mouse game, always has been. Printing press and Catholic Church, for example. There’s too much despair. Crypto is not an edgy technology for the sake of being edgy and niche. It’s a bottom-up defense mechanism. So don’t despair. The more you use it, the better off we will be

I read this and a bunch of related stuff when I was a teenager. And it had a huge impact on my feelings about privacy. It also made me want to study computer science (which I only did for 2 years, before noping out, lol). I liked the idea of learning stuff that could be used against “the man” in some dystopian future 

By the time I came here (which was for social reasons) I had mostly forgotten about all that. I initially didn’t make the connection between *this* crypto and *that* crypto. And wasn’t even interested in crypto at all. But once I did make that connection, I was excited about it all over again 

But in these past few months, I’ve lost most of my optimism. And I wish I could get it back. Because I don’t want to give up and be complicit
