Replies in the comments address this pretty well, but I see/hear a similar sentiment from Senior Programmers prognosticating an imminent Codepocalypse.
Tech debt is debt whether it’s agents writing it or humans writing it.
And I have first hand experience with “temp fix, update this after ship” that are still there 15 years later because the guy that wrote it left the company months after ship.
Or tightly designed and engineered features that were completely bypassed by a designer who joined the proj after the design phase, didn’t like the workflow because it’s “not the way we did things at my last company” and shanghai’d a different engineer into re-implementing significant parts.
The lesson here is, hire project managers who spend more time asking questions than they do posting on TikTok about their lunches and you’ll at least catch these things before they go completely off the rails.
If an engineer (agent or human) has trouble explaining the Why, you’re probably screwed.
