I'm sad to see The Center /sf close and happy everything I got out of it living in NoPa|Divisadero years ago. This was my favorite place in San Francisco 2 blocks away from Alamo Square down an unassuming alley way in the basement of a large church. Almost everyone I met at The Center found out about it through a friend since you'd never notice the almost secret entrance off of the street. If you had a membership you could craft your own blend of teas in a big glass pot and sit down in a collection of low tables, high tables, a hammock, and large comfy sofas. When you run into someone which was often you always had a large pot of tea to share. It was fun to have a wide range of people from techies to tara card herbalists and everyone in between. I remember many long nights learning how to code doing online Stanford courses after work and meeting randoms who ended up inviting me to be their room mates during my first time living in LatAm long term in Medellín.

RIP The Center. It really irks me that they lost their snack and beverage permit. I mainly went there just to drink tea and have a quiet moment. It makes me wonder if their closure was partly an issue of unlucky political timing. New city leadership seems to have a more reasonable stance on things like this.

I didn't know they lost their snack and beverage permit. I remember it being an issue though before I left at the end of 2020. That makes it worse that this could have been somewhat avoided.
