Sharing an amusing experience I had recently, in case it helps with UX improvement. I plan to delete this cast once the issue (raised by others too) gets acknowledged in some way. I often see “User A” in my Home feed. I don’t follow them. Content isn’t spammy or offensive - just not my preference. I figured not interacting would signal disinterest to the algorithm, but "User A" shows up a lot. The other day, their cast was the first one in my Home feed. I finally decided to tap “Show fewer like this” and refreshed the feed. A different cast from this user showed up as the first one in my Home feed, again. I tapped "Shower fewer like this" again. Refreshed again. Yet another cast from the same user was the first in my Home feed (third time in a row!). This time I gave up, accepted the algorithm's sense of humor, and decided to keep scrolling. But this third cast was a very short video. The audio glitched and kept playing even as I scrolled. I switched to the Following tab, Trending tab, navigated to channels. The audio kept playing on a loop (agh). So I ended up force-quitting the app. I still see casts from this user. I'm aware the other tool available is mute, but haven't used it yet. Muting feels too blunt. I don’t want to avoid DCs from this individual. I just want my Home feed to closer resemble my preferences. Two things would be very appreciated: 1) Clarification on how the current controls work (most immediate need) 2) A middle ground between "mute" and "show more of this" (not urgent for my experience but a nice to have) This is not a judgment on any content here. I know my content is not everyone's cup of tea. I really wouldn’t want anyone stuck seeing it at the top of their feed after expressing repeatedly they don't want it. I appreciate anyone reading this. Long live Farcaster. I wonder if this is the same person @kaloh brought up earlier because I’ve been experiencing receiving content from this person even though I’ve hit “show fewer like this” every time. Either that function is phantom or this person is impervious to it. I guess I can mute, but idk, it seems like too aggressive of an action. Nothing against the person at all…just have no interest in their stuff

Possibly - from what I’m reading many of us are seeing the same user repeatedly. I couldn’t find Kaloh’s cast. Do you have a link to it?

Meh, I’d rather not out them directly, but I’m like 99% sure we’re talking about the same person 🤣 At first I thought it was just my feed, but it looks like many (maybe all?) have the same gripe about being served their content despite our best efforts to attenuate it short of resorting to a mute/block. I don’t know…maybe we all need to collectively block (not mute) to signal to the algorithm we don’t want this anymore (nothing personal at all against the person, but it seems like we have to take it in our own hands at this point).

Most likely we are 😆. Hilarious situation all around when you think about it. It’s been good to politely commiserate on the feed and realize we aren’t the only ones wondering what’s going on.

Totally...I really thought it was just me, and I didn't want to post about it, especially since the content wasn't offensive, the person seemed nice/harmless, and I didn't want to be negative. I think we all kind of had that silent consensus, but then a few crumbs here and there were being thrown out there that we all find our timelines were just being dominated, and the "show fewer casts like this" seemed to have no effect. 🤣 For what it's worth, this is the first day in a while where I haven't seen their content, so hopefully the team patched it. I'm kind of curious now to see what happens with their engagement now...I could see how their content could be appealing to some. I'm still puzzled why they were the chosen ones, and it was being forced fed to all of us. 🤣

A few weeks ago I did an experiment looking for users with <100 followers and my takeaway was that new user discovery is hard here. Something people already felt anecdotally. I think we saw the results of an experiment to correct this issue. The last week or so seemed like a coincidental alignment of that experiment plus certain user(s) being new and casting often. As you said, not their fault. Some criticism of content felt misdirected when it should really be about feed control. Now that I know it takes 3x to get “see fewer like this” to do anything, it all makes sense. We were just monkeys pushing buttons that didn’t do anything lol.
