I wrote a reflection about my first month on Farcaster. Honest feedback is welcome. Don't worry about my feelings. I'm more interested in your POV, especially if you have a strong reaction. :) https://paragraph.com/@patriciaxlee/most-people-dont-know-how-to-be-interesting

Grateful that you've shared this perspective because it's not one I hear enough of on here. There have been some comments along the lines of "I can't wait until people use Farcaster to talk about something other than Farcaster" and while that isn't what you're saying, it is in that direction. This: "Most people don’t know how to be interesting, even though everyone has something interesting to share. I think it often comes from self-doubt or fear of rejection. So people hide behind safe, generic content, then wonder why no one is interested." Part of me wants channels to provide a bit more structure where people can feel comfortable sharing in their particular, likely chosen, cozy corner. Not to diminish the point that the infrastructure doesn't dictate whether anything shared is interesting, just glad to see infra mentioned in your piece. Overall, glad you're here and glad you've shared your first month of musings! Looking forward to more

I feel this. I’m only a few weeks in and it first felt like an echo chamber of inside jokes/memes I didn’t get. The builder aspect here is what kept me trying because I’m a dev. But eventually, finding/searching for the content I like and then just commenting and posting my own interests helped. Was nervous to be me here at first for sure. It helps that everyone here seems pretty open, interesting, and fun in their own right.

real ass article. @damariscosss posted this meme a bit ago, and not only is it funny, but it’s so accurate that in fact, i only discovered it by stalking her pfp after she interacted w me… ppl here are not the same as those on x, willing to reply to every post that says “those who grind r those who reply” type of big accounts who don’t offer any value— ppl here want to connect in a real way. they want the unfiltered thoughts & feedback. and this is the type of authenticity that i keep using & endorsing farcaster for. im not sure of the future but one thing is evident: there IS value in our non-scripted thoughts — free of the fear of adjusting to an algorithm, to a niche, or to our own self doubts :)

I think part of the problem is that on Farcaster (more than other social media platforms) people feel they can be 'context-free anons' with: cartoon pfps, no bio, no outbound links to their prior work...and expect the same level of inbound engagement as 'doxxed' people who bring (at least some of) their {offline, offchain} self to engage with others. On cryptotwitter being an anon (in many cases) was advantageous because the name of the game was ragebaiting and trolling people to get promoted in Twitter's algo, but that's not what's rewarded here. The other problem is that when you don't bring your whole self to FC, you end up only talking about crypto which just leads to incestuous headbanging over memecoins and other zero-sum games that I, and many others, find incredibly boring & uninteresting. There's no hope of going from URL to IRL because they've already put FC in a crypto-only box. All this doesn't mean that you can't be anon on FC, but expect to work harder & stake reputation in other ways.

farcaster feels more like reddit than twitter, where commenting on topics that interest you allows you to "advance" and become part of it; maybe because of the size of farcaster, this feels more like networking than a town hall

Great read! > You don’t need a huge audience to have a good time. My lowest-engagement casts have actually led to my favorite private conversations This is something I needed a reminder of. I've inadvertently become an influencer of sorts and consequently have changed the delivery of my thoughts based on what may have the broadest reach. When I originally came here for depth!

loved the whole thing, but especially the book analogy — so unique and on-point. minted one of these on @paragraph. I think it's a keepsake 🙌

Great read. Your perspective is priceless. I like this line: “People out there are looking for someone like you. Give them time to find you.” I’d add, Or build them a discovery tool like we’re making @intori

👋 Patricia.. was good to read a view from someone else thats also new around here. Being honest I joined social media only because of crypto .. otherwise never really had the urge to share my personal stuff online.. I have had my X account since about 2017 and never really did much with it other than consuming from the creators I really admired. My view after a few weeks in FC was that it was really hard to actually find a home.. I am still struggling with finding new people, I use miniapps like /yoink /farville to find new and interesting profiles that I may never find normally scrolling my feed. Also if I am honest, i am not a creator but i am a consumer. I feel like some people are naturally creators while others are consumers and generally speaking there is more consumers than creators. Imagine everyone wants to create and no one wants to consume .. just not gonna work. So I feel like there is still something missing that makes being a consumer rewarded and easy here! Thoughts?
