GM and happy Father’s Day.
I spent Saturday offline, showing around a couple friends who’ve just moved here. We started with Nick’s crispy tacos at Underground Too, had coffee at Pixlcat, and meandered around Golden Gate Park the rest of the afternoon.
The last time I walked around San Francisco all day like this, with no agenda, was at least five years ago. While we were in the park, we came across what looked like a hundred people in sleeping bags, lying motionless in a dark grove.
With a touch of concern, my friend asked, “Do all those people live here?” At first I said, “Probably.” But as we got closer, I saw one man sitting upright surrounded by bowls.
“Wait, that’s a sound bath.” While explaining what a sound bath was and offering to take them to one in Grace Cathedral, I realized how odd the culture here can be to outsiders.
The ocean and the redwoods do something to people here. The presence of nature dissolves our edges. In this, people can find themselves or lose themselves. 3 replies
