Be an Amy Lee when you build. She was once, “A chick and a piano? Are you kidding? On rock radio?” (Some stations even turned it off before the male vocals entered.) If you want to “sell out” you can absolutely poise and game your idea into the VC portfolio pocket. That’s a whole thing we talked about in a lot of courses I took related to M&A situations in law school. If you want to build a success you have to build toward the success you want. Often times, someone’s dream has nothing to do with charts or capital but a very specific idea of creating something meaningful to the maker(s). Amy Lee built meaningful music against all odds. You can build the way you want. If you give up due to numbers, chances are you were building for the money business, not the building business.
