Mount Bromo History Mount Bromo is an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia. Its name comes from the Hindu god Brahma. The local Tengger people believe it is sacred. According to legend, a couple sacrificed their child into the crater to thank the gods. Today, people still throw offerings into Bromo during the annual Yadnya Kasada festival. It lies inside a large ancient caldera and is famous for its beautiful scenery and spiritual significance.
