most channels are abandoned, owners will not care about implementing any (auto) invite system, therefor they die. The couple that do have people caring will have awkward UX to sign up for them. Invite-only channels should be opt-in. Period.

To me channels are more a hashtag replacement than gated communities. I want to "categorize" my casts in a meaningful way and channels so far have worked for that. Now they turn into communities, and there's no hashtag-esque feature anymore. Maybe warpcast should implement that next.

A hashtag I can just chose, there's no setup required. A channel I have to visit first, check if they allow a way to join, probably go through awkward frame UX that might be broken, or someone approves it manually, wait and only then I can actually use it. Way to much hassle for just categorizing a cast.

Their docs definitely make it sound like you won't be allowed to cast in channels anymore. You're right, on protocol level this won't be enforceable but Warpcast client will most likely prevent the cast and we all know that Warpcast is the leading force of farcaster still.

Think of channels as communities vs hashtags - This was the disconnect On most you'd be unseen because your casts would not show up on main feed - now as a member it 100% will There will be ways to ease onboarding of members @hypersub with subscribers, @modbot with composable rules for invites, /channel-kit request membership, and @intori based on engagement
