In 2019, Benjamin Schreiber, an Iowa prisoner serving life without parole for a 1996 murder, argued his life sentence ended after he briefly died from septic poisoning in 2015 and was resuscitated. The Iowa Court of Appeals rejected his claim, ruling he must remain in prison as he is still alive. No legal precedent supports his argument, and he remains incarcerated with no updates since 2019.
