I am for more transparency too. I think we are looking at the issue of the day differently. If an issue is of importance for the election season and the majority of constituents vote for the pol that is promising to fund it, that isn’t irrational spending. If on the other hand, volunteer taxpayers support a hot cause, without majority support (just the support of the largest taxpayers) so the pol goes along with it whether or not it’s what the majority of his constituents want, seems more irrational to me.

I mean that it is basically the same system that we have now but probably with smaller receipts. Those paying the largest amount of taxes will get the result that they desire. If you have enough money to voluntarily pay as much as you like you’ll be able to buy the outcome. Whether it’s mandatory or voluntary, those that put the most in will get the most out. One could argue now that most people just pay taxes as a fact of life and get on with it. I have often felt that I wouldn’t mind paying taxes if I could choose where my money would go,but you really can’t, so the best you could hope for was to elect someone who saw it the way you did. Now with the country split 50/50 and screaming with hair on fire about every move from the other side, would we have a situation that only 50% would pay taxes depending on who is in office? Like I said, I like your optimism, I just don’t think it’s plausible.

I love the optimistic outlook, I wish I felt that way. Please explain how these outcomes will not happen, 1- the desires of those without money will take precedence over others, and 2- the “issue of the day” will win the funds (as happened in 2020 when a huge % of philanthropic giving went to BLM, not in addition to but at the expense of other needs (medical research, the poor, etc.). We now know the disappointing impact those funds had.

Yes, agree that the internment shouldn’t be his entire legacy. But I still don’t think that deporting people (mostly criminals or designated terrorists as members of MS-13 or TDA) here in the country illegally is on the same level as putting our own in camps. I do have some issues with the agreement with El Salvador (like how long will they be in that jail), but there is a difference between the two. Btw, recently went to the FDR Presidential library, really cool place with lots of interesting stuff.

A minute of research would have uncovered that the government claims the mother requested both of her children be deported with her, that the father for some reason didn’t petition the court on his own, but designated a family friend to be her custodian and take her home from ICE custody. Sounds like the mother and ICE acted in the best interest of the children. The intellectual dishonesty of some people is actually astounding.

No the law doesn’t say I’m wrong. But trying to have a discussion with someone who has lost all sense of intellectual honesty because of their hatred for the current president is pointless.

Thank you for your suggestion but I’ve already read that article and I don’t find it compelling. I think it is of utmost importance that only US citizens be allowed to vote in National elections in order for each vote to count. No one’s vote should be diluted by an illegal vote, whether it’s by someone voting multiple times, someone voting in another persons name or an ineligible voter casing a vote. I feel that it’s one of our most important rights and I am willing to make sacrifices to be able to participate. Yes, I’ve moved states several times, had a name change and through it all I sucked it up, traveled to town halls, took time from work and hauled my kids with me and got it done. I also have the right to bear arms, that doesn’t mean the government is going to provide all the applications, courses and a gun for free.

That is really the only safeguard there is when someone shows up to vote. I didn’t say to buy a car, I said a license to drive. You don’t have to own a car to drive. There are many rights in the Constitution that legislators have put limits on, the right to bear arms, assembly, even free speech. Btw, I’m enjoying this conversation, I hope you are too.
