The global economy cannot currently withstand the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Inflation was just starting to be controlled in most countries around the world, and interest rates were on a downward path. Iran is seeking to increase pressure on the international community so that if peace is established, it won't be empty-handed in negotiations and won't be in a weak position at the negotiating table. This is what happened to Zelensky, whom Trump directly told that he doesn’t have a winning hand.
