When I think about technological progress, I picture the Taoist yin yang. Darkness begins to rise, and brave souls move to conjure light. Examples: 1. Encryption as an antidote to spying. 2. Open-source as an antidote to monopolies. 3. Bitcoin as an antidote to fiat debasement. 4. Polymarket as an antidote to misinformation. 5. Futarchies as an antidote to bias and nepotism. The darkness never leaves. But neither do those who rise to meet it.
