Judge Alvin Hellerstein increased Nicholas Truglia's sentence to 12 years. He failed to pay $20.4 million in restitution to his victim. Truglia pleaded guilty in 2021 for scamming Michael Terpin. They tricked telecom staff to transfer Terpin's number to a hacker-controlled SIM. This gave access to his crypto accounts. Truglia converted the stolen funds into Bitcoin.
