Have you ever ridden on a wooden escalator? If you have crossed the tunnel under the Scheldt river in Antwerp, you probably have! I would not recommend doing this with a loaded touring bike, like I did in 2018. Heavy bike, heavy gear, at a 45° angle, above me. I very nearly tumbled down the whole escalator with a bike on top of me. We were grateful for elevators any time we could find them on that tour. cool, tho, also, terrifying...i think i might have done something similarly stupid w/ a stroller at some point of deep desperation. tho i also might have just walked 3 miles to find an elevator instead...
