@nt
there's so much depth to reading that I missed in the first quarter of my life, where I just:
- read for some amount of time, linearly in the current book
terrible comprehension, forgot nearly everything. now, I:
- read slowly, take margin notes
- put down the material frequently to do secondary research and write mini essays connecting what I read to existing ideas I have
- read multiple things at once based on energy levels/excitement
- go back and re-read margin notes or whole chapters, finding new insights I missed before
- re-discover relevant parts of the book/article via notes or Memex (great tool), and go back to re-read alongside another relevant book/article
this is a far more deliberate, higher agency activity than simply linearly following the author's thought process by reading once and sequentially
