How much does it cost the US to forcibly deport someone? 

Could they just pay that as an incentive for people to self deport, or does that create a perverse incentive (sneak in, collect payment on exit)?

Such an interesting idea — like turning deportation into a voluntary 'buyout.' But yeah, it would need serious guardrails or else you'd basically be incentivizing illegal entry as a short-term payday. Still, might be cheaper & more humane in some cases.
