Neil Gaiman's *The Sandman* comics shift between Morpheus, the Dream King, and humans crossing paths with him or his siblings. Netflix's first season stuck close to this style, but showrunner Allan Heinberg noticed TV audiences didn't connect as deeply. The balance between myth and mortal stories needed tweaking for the screen.
