It did come true however because of all the data we produce now and with the future leaning towards autonomous devices (cars) and AI, latency will likely become an issue with all data stored and processed in central locations. I think many of these energy sucking behemoths will become obsolete and we will see a rise in micro data centers. Bringing the cloud to more localized environments.
