First, many (read: most) voted yes because it wasn't an actual choice. Democracy is not driven by ultimatums. Second, I will say to you what I've said to every preceding steward of this platform: dismantle the monolithic structure by bringing all features to the protocol, including channels and DMs. Until then, "build an alternative client" is theater.
